Volkswagen has confirmed the name of the first model of the new ID. family, which is to be officially introduced for the first time in the world at the International Motor Show IAA in Frankfurt. The new electric car will be presented under the ID.3 mark.

The digit “3” has even two meanings. On the one hand it refers to the fact that the car belongs to the compact segment which is the third in the order within the framework of the generally used categorisation of the automobile market. And on the other hand – with the ID.3 electric car – after such models as Beetle and Golf – the third chapter of strategic importance in the history of the Volkswagen brand is starting.

ID. is a common mark for all members of the VW model family forming a new separate product line in the Volkswagen brand product range. While Beetle was a pioneer in the field of affordable cars at one time, and Golf brings, with each of its generations, innovations to the segment which is sometimes called by its name, ID. should, according to the plans of the automobile company, make electric mobility more attractive for wide groups of customers. The ID. name symbolises an intelligent design, identity and visionary technologies.

The ID models will differ by numbers

The placement on the market of the ID.3 model will be followed by other models whose appearance was indicated by studies: ID. CROZZ, ID. VIZZION and ID. ROOMZZ. These future models will differ by numbers too.

The Volkswagen brand would like to become the world number one by 2025, with more than twenty models driven purely by electric drives and with an annual sales volume exceeding one million cars with zero emissions and extensive connectivity.
